Photoshop Tutorials - New Content Aware Tools in CS6

The Content Aware tools now have a modified Content Aware Patch tool and a brand new Content Aware Move tool.

The Content Aware Patch now uses the content aware algorithm when 'patching'.

Start by right-clicking the image below...'Copy Image'...and pasting it into Photoshop CS6.

Patch Tool

Now select the Content Aware Patch Tool.

With this tool, draw a rough marquee around the figure.

Now, with the Content Aware Patch Tool still selected, move your cursor inside your selection (a tiny black arrow will appear next to the cursor) and drag your selection. (We've dragged it across to the left.)

The figure will 'disappear', but the original marquee will remain.  See how the 'horizon' is not level? (Below)

Content Aware Fill Now go to EDIT...Fill, make sure 'Use: Content-Aware' is selected and click OK.
And voila! Deselct your marquee and it's as if the figure was never in the picture!

Now let's look at the Content Aware Move Tool.  Copy the image below into Photoshop.

Using the Quick Selection Tool, select the left-hand boy (include any shadows as it will give a better result).
Expand Selection Once you have made a selection, it helps to Expand the selection.  Go to SELECT...Modify...Expand and expand by about 5 pixels.

Content Aware Move Tool Now, with the 'marching ants' still going, choose the Content-Aware Move Tool. Place your cursor (it's a weird 'cross-arrows' one) within the marquee and drag to where you want the figure to be 'transported' to.

After a second or two while Photoshop processes your request, the original figure will disappear and - as if by magic - reappear in it's new position!  You may have to 'tidy up' the original position, but it's a really good and time-saving way to achieve this result.
